Taking care of a baby is a lot of work, so it’s perfectly fine to make things easier by cleaning your baby’s bottles in the dishwasher. Once you’ve confirmed that the bottles are dishwasher safe, there are a few simple precautions to follow to ensure everything comes out clean and safe to use. Overall, washing baby bottles isn’t much different from washing other items, it just requires a little extra care.

Note:

  • Seek professional guidance: If you have questions about caring for baby bottles, speak with your pediatrician. They may recommend sterilizing bottles or using other cleaning methods.
  • Coverage of this article: The provided information applies to Samsung dishwashers sold in Canada.

Did your baby just finish their meal? Then let’s get the bottle cleaned and ready for the next one. Washing glass and plastic baby bottles is mostly the same, although glass is generally more durable and may withstand more dishwasher cycles over time.

Important Check if the baby bottles are dishwasher safe. If this information is not printed on the bottom of the bottle, refer to the packaging (if available) or visit the manufacturer’s website for details. If you’re still unsure, it’s safer to hand wash the bottles using dish soap. You can see the next section for instructions on cleaning baby bottles by hand.

1 After you have confirmed that the bottles are dishwasher safe, separate the bottle parts, such as the main body and the cap. Then rinse the bottles and their parts under running water.

2 Place the bottles and their parts on the top rack of the dishwasher so they are not close to the heat source. Face the bottles downward to help them drain and help prevent bacteria growth. The caps, however, should face upward.
3 Make sure to secure the bottles and parts so they do not fall over and get damaged. We recommend using a dishwasher basket designed for baby bottle parts. It will keep the small pieces in place and help you position the different parts correctly.
4 Before you pour or insert dishwasher detergent, make sure you are using a gentle product that is safe for babies.
5 When you are ready, choose your desired cycle. We recommend using a hot water cycle because it will kill more germs and bacteria.

Note: Caps are usually more sensitive to heat than the main body of the bottle. If you are worried a hot water cycle will be too hot, it may be better to remove the caps and wash them by hand.

6 Start the dishwasher by pressing START. For specific instructions on using your Samsung dishwasher, check your model’s user manual.
7 Once the cycle ends, take out the bottles and their parts. If they are still wet, place them on a baby bottle drying rack. Let the bottles air dry. Do not wipe them with cloths or paper towels, as this could transfer germs.

If your baby bottles are not dishwasher safe, or if you are not sure and want to play it safe, hand washing only takes a few minutes.

1 First things first, be sure to thoroughly wash your hands. You do not want to accidentally transfer germs to the bottle while you are cleaning it.
2 Separate the bottle parts, such as the main body and the cap, and rinse them with warm water.
3 Pour hot water into a clean bucket or large container. Make sure the container is clean as well.

4 Add a gentle dishwashing soap to the water and swish it around until it is full of suds.
5 Place the bottles and their parts into the container of soapy water.
6 Use a bottle cleaning brush or another suitable tool to scrub away any grime or debris.
